Feeding African Children
Through research done in February 2020 in Kenya, 1.3 million people (9 % of the population analyzed) are estimated to have faced Crisis or worse acute food Insecurity, of which 296,500 people faced Emergency food crisis.
Feeding African children’s goal is to plant 2.5 Million fruit trees in the next 10 years. This is an ambitious project which is very costly but we are committed to the vision. However, more than 50% cost which is tendering of fruits trees to maturity is currently done on voluntary basis by the community groups.
The project aims at recruiting 50 community self-help group that are well structured and have been existence for more than one year to ensure that they are at performing stage and not forming stage.
Every group will be taken through the organization’s goals and aims and their leaders being taken through leadership development program currently done in collaboration with Ideate hub consultancy.
Every community group will establish a suitable location with access to water and security. RUDESS will provide fruit tree seedlings. We are currently doing avocados.
The expectation is for every self-help group to take care of 5000 fruit trees every year for 10 years thus the figure of 2.5 Million.
Currently we are working with 10 groups and we are in the process of recruiting 40 more groups in every sub county in Nakuru County as per our strategic plan.
While we may not be able to feed every hungry child with a fruit, we can feed one child one day at a time
